Therapy for Depression in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Therapy for Depression in Chiang Mai, Thailand

How to heal from depression

Therapy for depression is designed to meet your individual needs, identifying and addressing the causes of your depression and empowering you with the tools that you need to live a happier and healthier life.

Hypnotherapy sessions for depression are available from my clinic in Chiang Mai, Thailand, or online.

Understanding depression

Depression is characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest in activities that were once enjoyable. Other symptoms of depression can include a decreased appetite, low sex drive, negative outlook on the future, and difficulty sleeping.

The various forms of depression are typically classified based on the severity and duration of the symptoms.

The types of depression

Reactive depression, for instance, is a response to a specific event or loss, such as the end of a relationship or the death of a loved one. While it's normal to experience grief after a significant loss, therapy for reactive depression focuses on processing emotions from sudden life changes.

Mild depression is characterised by symptoms that resolve within three months, whereas moderate depression's symptoms last between three and six months. Chronic depression, on the other hand, involves symptoms persisting for more than six months, which may lead to permanent personality changes if left unaddressed.

In treating chronic depression, my primary goal is to help you to change your vision of yourself. It is important to move away from seeing yourself as being “a depressed person”, towards the belief that you can heal.

You need to discover the reasons behind your emotions and the causes of your depression, before they can be healed with counseling and hypnotherapy.

The final part of the therapy will help you to understand your values and needs and make life changes so that you may live in alignment with them.

Bipolar depression, or the experience of extreme emotional highs and lows, is believed to result from a chemical imbalance in the brain, although no concrete scientific proof has been found to support this theory.

It's essential to understand that emotional highs and lows are normal and to learn tools and practices that you can use to regulate your emotions when needed.

Treating depression in Chiang Mai, Thailand

I offer in-person therapy sessions to heal depression at my clinic, The Chiang Mai Wellness Centre. Sessions are also available online.

We will uncover and address the causes of your depression in therapy through a combination of counseling and hypnosis with a focus on the three core components that contribute to depression:

  • The past: unresolved emotions from past events.
  • The present: internal conflicts, relationship problems, and life choices misaligned with personal values and needs.
  • The future: fears and insecurities about the future.

The hot air balloon: navigating the forces of depression

The following metaphor is helpful to help you to understand how you can heal from depression.

Imagine your emotional state is like a hot air balloon. There are forces that pull you down, and there are forces that lift you up.

Over a course of therapy, you will:

  1. Find and heal each and every one of the forces that weigh you down, by order of emotional magnitude.
  2. Teach you how to consciously create more positive forces in your life.
  3. Develop a deeper understanding of your parts, their values, and needs. This framework has helped many people not only heal from depression but also to grow through it.
